America’s arrogance & desire to hear their view is the correct one has led to an intellectual declinenin our society. social media & reality TV have accelerated this decline. This despite Accurate information having never been more available w smartphones & tablets. Good news is that being “successful” isn’t really that difficult, but it does require a little bit of research & work.
Thanks so much for the comment and for reading! I think the human tendency toward confirmation bias is a huge problem we all must work actively to overcome, and I agree with you 100% about social media (and not just reality television, but almost ALL television) being responsible for much of our current intellectual decline. I also agree with you about how lucky we are to have so much information at our fingertips today. Unfortunately, per this quote from a recent Knight Foundation study (https://knightfoundation.org/reports/american-views-2020-trust-media-and-democracy/), people are having a hard time figuring out what information sources are credible: "More Americans say it is harder (60%) rather than easier (38%) to be well-informed because of all the sources of information available." I'll touch more on that study in my upcoming post this week -
